Sydney’s premium luxury developments — but beneath the surface lies the remains
of Australia’s brutal convict past.
Construction of the 29-storey “vertical village” at 45
Macquarie St has uncovered brick floors from an 1840s convict hut, the
foundations of a wheelwright’s workshop and the sandstone remains of a hotel
cellar.
